I was raised on a farm and have been around and on or under, if you know what I mean, horses, mules, or some kind of livestock almost all of my life. As I grew up, riding, working, buying, and trading horses and mules was just a way of life and the common practice used to tell the approximate age of the animals in question, was the information provided by their teeth. As I grew older and traveled around the country to county fairs, rodeos, shows and auctions it became apparent that less and less people actually knew what to look for in an equine's teeth in an attempt to determine their age. I then realized this ancient skill was becoming more and more confusing or possibly even being lost all together. These same techniques apply to all types of equine and have been recognized and used around the world for hundreds of years. I personally had never seen or known of any other comprehensive written record or book devoted to the subject. So in 1993, I started spending any of my available time and energy talking with people who had been in the equine business for years and anyone else who seemed to know something about it that appeared to be valid in order to publish this material. Since it was a completely new concept for a book, sales have been substantial, and we have yet to have a book returned or a refund requested. As a matter of fact, many of the sales are repeat customers. Some just want a new book for themselves and many want to send them to friends. They make excellent gifts. They are the perfect gift for that young cowboy or cowgirl in the family that has a interest in horses or mules. Last October we shipped twenty of the books to a banker in New York City. He said he had never touched a horse and had absolutely no interest in horses, but a friend had given one of the books for his birthday. He thought it was really clever idea and was going to send the books to some of his business associates as Christmas gifts because he knew it would be a gift they would never forget. Just proves they make great gifts for any and all occasions. These books have been very popular with ranches, riding clubs, 4-H clubs and other equine clubs or organizations.
